Return to Work: What Your Employees Want
September 17, 2020 at
2:00pm EST
What do employees across Canada need to feel comfortable going to work during the COVID-19 pandemic?
That’s what Talent Canada magazine set out to find in partnership with Telus Employer Solutions. From Aug. 6 to Sept. 9, Talent Canada surveyed Canadians across the country — drawing in a total of 850 responses.
The results give senior management and HR professionals insights into the comfort levels of workers, what they need from their employers to return to normal — and highlight some key areas that need attention.
To bring the story to life, editor Marcel Vander Wier assembled a virtual roundtable of experts to discuss the results in-depth.
You can view full coverage of the survey results in Talent Canada at https://www.talentcanada.ca/returning-to-work-what-workers-want/.
Virtual roundtable panelists
The roundtable discussion featured insights from:
- David Weiss, CEO of Weiss International, an HR consultancy in Toronto.
- Kimberly Humphreys, corporate director of employee experience at Interior Health Authority in Kelowna, B.C.

Comfort levels on return to work
The panel takes a deep dive into the data from survey respondents – including the headline-grabbing fact that so many employees (73 per cent) who have been working remote are reluctant to return to their usual worksites.
Are workers ready for a new normal?
There has been a lot of information in the mainstream media, and from health authorities, on what needs to be done to protect workers. People are used to wearing masks in public, washing hands frequently and keeping a safe distance. Does all this mean employees are more ready to return to work than they were at the start of the pandemic?
How will the COVID-19 pandemic affect the future of the workplace?
Many organizations have now seen first-hand that work can be conducted anywhere. The panel discusses the long-term changes that could come to workplaces in the wake of COVID-19.
