Walmart Canada is boosting pay, handing out bonuses

Walmart Canada is handing out “appreciation” bonuses of $200 for full-time associates and $100 for part-time associates to thank them during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is also increasing pay by $2 per hour from April 3 to April 30, something it is calling a “Thank You Premium.”

Employee discounts

It is also launching deeper employee discounts, upping the rate by an additional 10 per cent “for two shopping days in April,” according to a company memo. “This will help enable associates to purchase the essentials they need.”

Store incentive program

Walmart is accelerating the deposit of annual incentive plan payouts by two weeks for all store associates, it said.

“All eligible associates will receive their payment earlier on April 3,” it said.

It also confirmed news reported earlier in Talent Canada that all 90,000 Canadian employees will have access to “live online physician care … at no cost so that they can get the advice and care they need.”

Workers who are quarantined will receive two weeks replacement pay “under mandated quarantine and additional supplemental income for those with confirmed cases who are required to stay home beyond two weeks.”
