Worker at TVO walk off job after negotiations collapse
Workers at TV Ontario (TVO), the public broadcaster in the province, have walked off the job.
The Canadian Media Guild, which represents around 70 workers at the broadcaster, said “we are deeply saddened to have not been able to reach a fair and reasonable agreement with our employer.”
It said the workers went on strike as of 10:30 a.m. Monday morning.
Earlier this month, 96% of union members rejected a contract from TVO. The biggest sticking point is reported to be the use of contract workers rather than hiring permanent staff. Wages are also an issue.
