The governments of Canada and Manitoba have announced the opening of the second round of program intake for the Canada-Manitoba Job Grant in 2023, a joint initiative aimed at meeting the training and workforce development needs of businesses in the province.

The initiative, which was revealed by Manitoba’s Economic Development, Investment and Trade Minister Jeff Wharton, is set to provide cost-shared funding support for employers to invest in third-party-delivered training for both new and existing employees. With a joint investment of $10 million for the 2023-24 fiscal year, the grant is designed to boost the skills and career prospects of the Manitoba workforce.

“This funding will support Manitobans in finding good jobs that provide training opportunities and more chances for career advancement, and support employers in providing these opportunities to their staff,” said Wharton.

Under the terms of the grant, employers are eligible to receive up to $10,000 per employee and $100,000 per training project. For small employers with fewer than 100 employees, the grant will cover up to 75 per cent of eligible training costs, while larger employers can apply for up to 50 per cent of training costs.

The summer intake for the program will commence on Aug. 21, offering businesses a fresh opportunity to apply for support in training their workforce.

The Canada-Manitoba Job Grant represents an ongoing collaboration between the federal and provincial governments to foster workforce development and economic growth in Manitoba. By facilitating access to training and career development opportunities, the grant aligns with broader efforts to strengthen the province’s economy and enhance the well-being of its citizens.
