Rock band The Smashing Pumpkins put out a call for a new guitarist. Care to guess how many people applied?

More than 10,000, according to a social media post by the band.

“There are eight people working full-time to review each and every one,” according to a post on the band’s Instagram page.

The comments section, as always, was entertaining — with one person asking: “Do they do do deep tissue massages for the brain? Those 8 people are gonna be in need of a gift card.”

Another asked: “Is there somewhere non-serious applicants can send stuff so they don’t have to review it as strictly?”

Another called it “crazy” that The Smashing Pumpkins have an “office of admissions.” That prompted a response from the band: “I couldn’t believe it myself. Gimme an intern!”

The spot in the band became available when Jeff Schroeder, who was with the Pumpkins for more than 15 years, announced his departure in October.
