Self-regulation now available for CPHRs in Saskatchewan

The Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) Saskatchewan becomes a self-regulating body for its members as The Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Act came into force on May 13.

The act establishes two levels of regulation:

  • registration for members
  • certification for those who wish to pursue the CPHR designation.

“Our government is on a path for growth and to be successful, we need to ensure that we are giving our human resource professionals every advantage necessary to compete in today’s market,” Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said in a news release.

“This legislation will do that and will also benefit workers, their families and the broader public by ensuring professional competence and ethical conduct of human resource professionals.

“I would like to thank the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Saskatchewan and the International Personnel Management Association Canada for their role in helping ensure the legislation addresses the needs of members but that it does not impede the good work of the human resource professionals in our province.”

The legislation does not provide for licensure.

The act also does not affect the right of any person who is not a member of the association to practice in the field of human resources or to become a certified professional with a human resources association other than the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources Saskatchewan.
